10 Tips To Securing a Cheap Flight Ticket
I had a customer called me on Thursday's night to get him a local flight for his family for Friday flight, which is the following day, after checking for the different airlines and I was reluctant to text him what I got.
Why the reluctance? I couldn't imagine him paying so much for less than one hour flight, the same ticket, someone else paid half of what I got for him.
what is the difference?
The time of booking, yes you heard me well. The period you book your flight ticket can make so much difference in fare.
Booking a flight ticket could be expensive most times, are you worried that you pay more than what you wanted, and often make changes to your trip or destination due to the high cost of flight ticket, don't worry any more, we have put ten tips to help you get a cheaper flight.
1. Book Early for cheap flights
Booking your flight 3 months to 30 days from the departure will help to secure a cheaper ticket. The plane ticket usually increases in fare three to two weeks before departure for international flights and local flights on Mondays, Fridays and Saturday.
Booking as soon as possible is the surest way to ensure you book the lowest price.
2. Be flexible with your travel dates
Having a flexible travel plan helps you to save money. Another way to easily save money is to travel on mid-week and on holidays than on weekends. ( Christmas, Easter day and New year's Eve) Since fewer people travel on these days, flight fares can be cheaper and also early morning and late-night flights because fewer people want to travel then.
While many people say booking on a Tuesday will save you more money, the reality is that there is no consistent truth to exactly which days are cheaper to fly. The best strategy is to get a visual of prices for a month and check what days are cheapest for a particular route.
3. Book a connecting flight
If you won't mind travelling a bit longer, booking a connecting flight to a nearby airport or even to your destination can be cheaper than a non-stop flight; and taking train or bus to your destination.
Most major cities have a smaller airport, secondary airport, where budget airlines fly into these airports since smaller airports charge smaller landing fees, it helps to keep the cost down.
Ensure you find out the distance from the airport to the city so as not to spend much on transportation.
4. Check out discount airlines
Some airlines from time to time give out some discounted fares, these airlines help you save money both on domestic and international flights.
Do check their terms and conditions, they often have very strict Luggage restrictions, change of flight restrictions.
5. Use more than one travel portal
Always try to look for more options from different carriers before booking your flight. There are many online sites where you can confirm prices, they are quick and reliable. It helps you know which carrier is cheaper at a particular date.
6. Use an airline credit card to avoid Baggage fees
Most airlines credit cards waive the baggage fees for at least one travelling companion. You must book directly with the airline and use their credit card to pay for the flight.
7. Use Awards Miles
You can become a loyalty member by registering with your carrier and that qualifies you for some Miles' points, anytime you travel with your carrier, points are added to you. Miles can be valuable when redeemed for expensive cash flights. You can redeem your miles through the credit card travel portal or transfer them to your airline loyalty program and buy the ticket directly from the carrier.
8. Use your credit cards travel credits
Credit cards travel credits offer some fringe benefits to the owner. It can be used to pay for baggage fees, access to complimentary airport lounge and Global Entry fees reimbursement if you have a long layover.
9. Browse Airlines specials
If you're going to wait till the last week to book, you might be able to get the last-minute offer directly from the carrier, at this point the carrier may be willing to give the remaining seats at a reduced fare.
10. Check if it is cheaper to pay in other currencies
When booking your flight, consider if paying in other currencies is cheaper and also make sure you're using a credit card that is free of foreign transaction fees. If not your attempt to save money will be lost.
Booking early and flexibility are two of the best tips for securing a cheaper flight. The last-minute deal can be found but your option can be limited. By comparing prices with the carrier and taking awards miles into account, you can find your cheaper flight.
