10 amazing tips to end your fear of flying

The fear of flying is very common, but the truth is that you’re not alone. It is said that one out of every three people is afraid to fly. It is a symptom rather than a disease. It can be a phobia by itself or a manifestation of one or more phobias; different causes can lead to fear of flying.
Although not everyone suffers from this fear with the same intensity; 13% are considered to have real panic and 15% have a more or less acute or moderate discomfort when boarding a plane, a 28% estimate that suffers to a greater or lesser extent.

Fear of flying can be caused by several fears:-
1.         Fear of heights.
2.         Fear of enclosed spaces like the cockpit of an airplane.
3.         Fear of having panic attacks in certain places.
4.         Fear of not being in control.
5.         Fear of turbulence.
6.         Fear of flying in the night.
7.         Fear of accident that will result in death.

These fears exist but you do not allow them to ruin the joy of your flight.

Ten tips to end the fear of flying:-
1.         Meditate:
Meditation is another way many people gain control over travel anxiety. Meditation uses a type of self-hypnosis, so you can calm your nerves and your mind. Several self-hypnosis scripts designed to relieve anxiety about travel. Meditate on these scripts and your mind will be calm during your trip. Scripts are excellent tools to turn people's subconscious minds into friends rather than enemies. Instead of having a subconscious mind deeply rooted in the anxiety to travel, you will have a subconscious mind that is confident and not afraid of flights.

2.         Air transport is considered the safest? More than 100,000 daily flights and an accident rate of    0.37. Airplanes do not fly "by magic”, they fly under the requirement of something as solid as a law of physics.

3.         Learn to cope with flight phobia
What exactly does scare you? Are you acrophobic or claustrophobic? You may want to dig deeper to find the root cause of your fear. Maybe the mechanical sounds bother you or the turbulence of the air causes you fear. All these fears are irrational, you can counter them rationally. Airlines have strict security measures onboard.

4.         Once onboard, try to tune to music or favourable channels to calm your nerves  Also, use anything you like, such as a book, game to interrupt your thoughts while traveling.

5.         Commercial aviation is the safest means of transportation is to leave no loose ends and not trust anything. The planes have already seen that they fly by the application of imperious natural laws, but they remain so safe in the air, with all certainty, thanks to the maintenance and exhaustive and permanent care that is done to these machines since they leave the factory until the end of his active life.

6.         It is important that your thoughts are not catastrophic, but positive and realistic. Having a positive outlook on your flight will help you stay calm and relax.

7.         It is better that you do not put yourself in the window seats because it can increase your anxiety.

8.         When there is a plane crash, avoid watching images on television so as not to associate the plane with a dangerous situation.

9.         Flying in the company of a friend, a relation or talk with the partner next door can keep you calm and relaxed.

10.       Take slow and deep breaths, if they are accompanied by relaxing music better; especially on takeoff and landing.

Other things to note-
Recognize that your fear exists; seek help from a professional for your inability to fly as a result of fear. Think of what you can enjoy if this fear is not there.

Finally, according to a study, it was concluded that air transport is 26 times safer than driving a car; 18 times safer than being in your own home; 10 times safer than being in the workspace; 8 times safer than walking as a pedestrian on the streets; 4 times safer than traveling by train and 6 times safer than the possibility of being killed by the spouse or a close relative.

13 Safety Tips for Travelling Internationally this Festive Season

13 Safety Tips for Travelling Internationally this Festive Season

Plan on travelling this festive season?

Don't leave without knowing how to travel safely, especially if you're going somewhere new.

My aim isn't to scare you but crimes do happen abroad. Wherever you're headed to for the coming holidays, take safety precautions to ensure you, your loved ones, and your properties are safe.

Here are 13 safety tips I recommend to anyone planning to travel to a foreign place.

13 tips for staying safe on your trip abroad

1.     Blend in
Remember the people there are not strange to you, you’re strange to them. Blend in and avoid doing things that make it so obvious that you are a tourist.
Here are some good examples:
Wearing a flag around or any other ridiculous tourist merch.
Opening a map on the street: Nothing screams ‘I'm a tourist’ louder.
Dressing differently: the streets of Europe is not the best place to model your Igbo regalia. Observe how the locals dress and follow suit-pun intended.

2. Learn the local language

You don't need to be fluent, you just need to know how to ask for help.

I love this master list of phrases to learn by Ryan o' Rourke. Check it out.

3. Know your destination
Do research on the country you’re travelling to. What’s the political climate? Any natural disasters to be aware of? What are the safest places to reside? Google is pretty helpful, but some of the best information I’ve gotten about a place came from the locals. Hotel staffs and cab drivers are my go-tos. You can also ask your friends and family in the area.

Vital questions to ask are:

  1. Where should I stay away from at night?
  2. How can I get a safe transport back (especially at night)?
  3. What are the emergency numbers?
  4. What are common tourist scams to lookout for?

4. Write down important information
Phones go missing. Batteries die. Life happens. Your safest bet is to write your important info on a piece of paper and put it in your pocket. If you are a woman, your purse could get snatched, hide the paper in a wallet, pocket, or in your shoe.

Make sure to have at least these three things written:
        Your embassy number and location
        Emergency numbers-police, fire, and medics
        Your hotel (or accommodation) address

Other helpful contacts to have are your:
        Credit/Debit card company or bank
        Travel agency
        Health insurance company
        Travel insurance company
        Local cab company
Friends and family in the area

Extra tip: write them down in both your language and the local language.

5. Always tell someone where you're going and when next they should expect to hear from you.

6. Scan & Save vital documents
This should go without saying, but we’ll say it nonetheless-keep an electronic copy of every important document you take with you on your trip. You can send the e-copy to an email, keep it on a pen drive, or store them on the cloud. You should also have an e-copy of vital documents on your phone or laptop incase you need them quickly.

What documents should you scan?
        Visa
        Passport (the id page)
        Driver’s license
        Airline ticket
        Vaccination certificates
        Travel insurance
        Hotel reservation confirmation

7. Ask for ID from authority figures
If someone claims to be an authority figure, confirm their identity before going anywhere or handing anything over to them.

10. Keep your valuables secure all the time
Preferably you should leave your valuables in a safe where you lodge. But if you must go out with valuable items always secure them well and keep an eye on them.  An extra tip is to separate your cash and cards. You don’t want to keep everything in one place, incase–god forbid–you get robbed.

11. Watch the alcohol
German beer is really good, I get it. But remember you're not in a familiar environment, know your limits so you don't get drunk. As an adjunct, keep an eye on your food and drinks when you're out. Cover your drink and keep it within your eyesight. Be careful of people going out of their way to handle your food or drink.

12. Get travel insurance
Not many people take advantage of travel insurance, but it’s the best way to ensure you’re covered should an emergency occur. Most travelers insurance covers medical expenses, transportation, compensation missing luggage and delayed flights, and trip cancellation expenses. If you’re in Nigeria, you can check out companies such as AXA Mansard, AIICO, and Allianz.

13. Walk with the crowd
As a single woman who enjoys travelling, being safe when I'm out and about is a major concern. A little trick I use is to walk behind a crowd or a couple. Often times, people understand and respond nicely, even to the extent of allowing me to walk with them. The point of this is to not stand out or make yourself an easy target by walking alone.

Enjoy your trip!

That’s it. Use these tips to ensure that you and your properties return home in one piece. Have a blast.

10 Tips To Securing a Cheap Flight Ticket

I had a customer called me on Thursday's night to get him a local flight for his family for Friday flight, which is the following day, after checking for the different airlines and I was reluctant to text him what I got.
Why the reluctance? I couldn't imagine him paying so much for less than one hour flight, the same ticket, someone else paid half of what I got for him.

what is the difference?
The time of booking, yes you heard me well. The period you book your flight ticket can make so much difference in fare.

Booking a flight ticket could be expensive most times, are you worried that you pay more than what you wanted, and often make changes to your trip or destination due to the high cost of flight ticket, don't worry any more, we have put ten tips to help you get a cheaper flight.

1. Book Early for cheap flights
Booking your flight 3 months to 30 days from the departure will help to secure a cheaper ticket. The plane ticket usually increases in fare three to two weeks before departure for international flights and local flights on Mondays, Fridays and Saturday.
Booking as soon as possible is the surest way to ensure you book the lowest price.

2. Be flexible with your travel dates
Having a flexible travel plan helps you to save money. Another way to easily save money is to travel on mid-week and on holidays than on weekends. ( Christmas,  Easter day and New year's Eve) Since fewer people travel on these days, flight fares can be cheaper and also early morning and late-night flights because fewer people want to travel then.

While many people say booking on a Tuesday will save you more money, the reality is that there is no consistent truth to exactly which days are cheaper to fly. The best strategy is to get a visual of prices for a month and check what days are cheapest for a particular route.

3. Book a connecting flight
If you won't mind travelling a bit longer, booking a connecting flight to a nearby airport or even to your destination can be cheaper than a non-stop flight; and taking train or bus to your destination.

Most major cities have a smaller airport, secondary airport, where budget airlines fly into these airports since smaller airports charge smaller landing fees, it helps to keep the cost down.
Ensure you find out the distance from the airport to the city so as not to spend much on transportation.

4. Check out discount airlines
Some airlines from time to time give out some discounted fares, these airlines help you save money both on domestic and international flights.
Do check their terms and conditions, they often have very strict Luggage restrictions, change of flight restrictions.

5. Use more than one travel portal
Always try to look for more options from different carriers before booking your flight. There are many online sites where you can confirm prices, they are quick and reliable. It helps you know which carrier is cheaper at a particular date.

6. Use an airline credit card to avoid Baggage fees
Most airlines credit cards waive the baggage fees for at least one travelling companion. You must book directly with the airline and use their credit card to pay for the flight.

7. Use Awards Miles
You can become a loyalty member by registering with your carrier and that qualifies you for some Miles' points, anytime you travel with your carrier, points are added to you.  Miles can be valuable when redeemed for expensive cash flights. You can redeem your miles through the credit card travel portal or transfer them to your airline loyalty program and buy the ticket directly from the carrier.

8. Use your credit cards travel credits
Credit cards travel credits offer some fringe benefits to the owner. It can be used to pay for baggage fees, access to complimentary airport lounge and Global Entry fees reimbursement if you have a long layover.

9. Browse Airlines specials
If you're going to wait till the last week to book, you might be able to get the last-minute offer directly from the carrier, at this point the carrier may be willing to give the remaining seats at a reduced fare.

10. Check if it is cheaper to pay in other currencies
When booking your flight, consider if paying in other currencies is cheaper and also make sure you're using a credit card that is free of foreign transaction fees. If not your attempt to save money will be lost.

Booking early and flexibility are two of the best tips for securing a cheaper flight. The last-minute deal can be found but your option can be limited. By comparing prices with the carrier and taking awards miles into account, you can find your cheaper flight.

10 Big Mistakes To Avoid When Travelling Abroad

There is a quote that says " travelling is not something you're good at, it's something you do. Like breathing".That is true. you can't be perfect and without making a few mistakes on your first trip abroad.

Are you worried that on your first trip to abroad will be full of mistakes, it is actually normal to make a few mistakes when travelling the first time to an unknown place.

Here are 10 tips you should know and avoid so you can enjoy your vacation abroad.

1. Overpacking:  You may be tempted to bring outfits for every occasion, but the truth is that you may not wear all of them. You may get stuck with high baggage fees for exceeding the weight limit. You can do some laundry at your destination. Pack the most necessary things, beautiful and sassy; your undies, accessories, shoes, bags and clothes should give you comfort. Leave room for your shopping.

2. Not Packing a travel power Adapter: What many people do when packing for a trip is to bring the cords to charge their phones, tablets, and laptops. what they may not consider is that many of these cords may not work outside of their country. Many countries have their own type of power outlet and can differ from country to country. if you want your cords to work when you travelled abroad, then you will have to buy travel adapters. You can find it on Amazon. They are decent and portable and can accept a range of voltages.

3. Not finding out if your phone will work abroad: It is important you find out if your phone plan will work in the country of your destination. In some cases, you need to buy the country Sim card or pay for data in order to use wifi hotspot and internet-based app to make calls and send messages.

4. Allowing mistakes to ruin your trip: That you're reading how to avoid mistakes on your first trip, does not mean you will not make mistakes. Mistakes will always come.
All travel usually has an element of chaos and expecting that everything will go perfectly and smoothly all the time is a mistake on its own. You might forget something, your plane may be delayed, train cancelled. The best thing to do is not to let this weigh you down, but to calm down and figure out how you can fix it. Accept the fact that something might happen that is completely beyond your control, that you can't always control everything. so relax and enjoy your trip

5. Going for the cheap instead of the best value: It is smart to save money when budgeting for your trip but getting products of best quality should not be compromised. Always consider whenever you are getting items of reliability, how long it is going to last. Is it going to last for years? so that you don't have to deal with the cycle of breaking down and replacing of items each time you want to travel. Always look for what is comfortable when shopping for shoes and clothes. Go for quality, but remember that expensive isn't synonymous with quality.

6. Not cross-checking directions from locals: Sometimes it could be funny the answers some strangers give when asked for direction. Some locals tend to be ashamed if you ask something they don't know, so they just point to any direction and hope for the best. Try using GDS and google maps, they are useful abroad and also ask another person if you are in doubt.

7. Overpaying for flight tickets: Everyone knows that buying the last-minute ticket can be expensive. There are many advise on the internet for buying your ticket, maybe 2 to 3 months, even 6 months before the date of travelling. And this advice may not be applicable every time based on airline industry algorithms. Once you have made up your mind on your destination, you can use Tripberry, wakanow to check fares and track fares. Online travelling shops have features that will help you choose the cheapest day to depart and return. It can also let you know how much you will be saving if you change to another date.

8. Buying different tickets from different airlines: It is usually risky to fly one itinerary on separate tickets. If you have one ticket and the plane is delayed or cancelled, the airline own the responsibility to get you to your final destination. But if you are on a separate ticket, they don't, but will get you as far as the end of the ticket you're flying them on. Nonetheless, it is sometimes necessary to book separate tickets if it is cost-effective, you have an award ticket and you're flying airlines that don't interline and can't be ticketed together.

9. Exchanging a bunch of cash at the airport: Travellers tend to lose a lot of money when travelling abroad, due to the exchange rate at the airport which is usually higher than when exchanging at the bank or outside the airport. How much you lose depends on how much you need when you go to exchange foreign currency. If the amount you need is small then the foreign exchange won't be an issue. Exchange the amount that can cover your local transport and a few things on your way. when you get your destination, you can exchange as the day progresses.

10. Running out of phone battery: It can be frustrating if your phone is dead in a place you are unfamiliar with and especially when you needed to retrieve information from your phone either for direction or to contact a person. so when you are on an adventure, a charged phone becomes even more essential. Having a rechargeable battery pack is perfect for keeping your phone alive no matter where you are in the world.

15 Important Tips for Travelling with Kids

Travelling with your kids can be challenging. whether it is your first time or the third time. You are faced with what to pack and how to get there, but it can be one of the best experience you have as a family.
However, when travelling with kids, finding a balance between rest and activities and also paying attention to their needs are two key ingredients among others.

We have put together 15 top tips for travelling with kids.

1. Slow down and leave on time
Many families get tensed travelling with kids. They worry about the end before the journey even started. One thing is important, you will definitely going to travel, so slow down and plan your trip. Build more time into your itinerary to leave for the airport on time. A flexible schedule will create less stress and a happier trip for you and your kids.

2. Don't Overpack
Remember it is important to pack only what is needed for your trip. There is a tendency for families to pack everything kids use at home. Almost everywhere you travel kids are there. if you missed anything, you can easily buy it at your destination. But make sure you bring diapers, baby wipes, a change of clothes, plastics bags, snacks, headphones, extra batteries, you may need them before taking off or after landing. The less you pack, the easier for you to carry and more room for souvenirs.

3. Packing baby food
Many airports allow your baby food to go through security checks in a container over 100ml. They demand that the container be opened, to screen the content of the food, it usually takes a moment, there is nothing to worry, your food won't get contaminated.

4.  Plan your journey
Planning your flight around bedtime can be the best gift you can give to yourself and your child. A sleeping child is comfort and rests for everybody. If you have a connecting flight, be sure to leave enough amount of time to avoid a mad rush in an unfamiliar airport. Give yourself a couple of time to stretch your legs, talk, visit the convenience. Booking your ticket ahead of time can get you a cheaper ticket.

5. Book everything ahead of time
You may be the type that likes to book immediately you are ready to go. but with kids, it shouldn't be so. Pre-book everything you can remember, accommodation, flight tickets, airport transfer, sightseeing tours, public transportation, tickets to a museum, private guides, and other attractions. Book ahead as many places as you wish to visit, this will give you more time to relax and enjoy your destination and you can get better discounts.

6. Be willing to ask for a child's discount
To some people, it's difficult to ask for a child discount, but when you do it two to three times, you will find it easier to do. You won't know how much you will save until you ask for a discount.

Items you should be asking for a discount

  • Flight tickets
  • Transportation both buses and trains
  • Restaurant (some places have kids eat free promotion)
  • Sightseeing attractions
  • Private guides
7. Explain the trip
Explaining the trip to your kids is important. when they understand what is expected of them at each point on the trip will help them to be more relax and be in their best behaviour. Explain what they will expect at the airport, in the planes, hotels, trains and attraction centres and your expectations for their behaviour throughout the trip. When kids understand your itineraries, the less likely they will ask you questions.
8. Buy a quality Gear
You may not buy the most expensive bag but go for what is quality and comfortable. Look for the items you are purchasing and find out which features will make your life easier, and how many times you will be using it. Get something that you can fold a bit smaller and your kids can carry around the city.

9. Snacks- very important
Having a few snacks with you on your trip is very important. your flight could be delayed more than expected, there might be traffic to your hotel, a tour may take more time than expected.
Your kids may not enjoy the food at your destination, so taking a few snacks at all time for your kids and even for adults won't be bad.

10. Safety and security
There is nothing devastating than the feeling you get when you don't know where your kids are when you are on a journey. you need to make sure that you keep an eye on your child at all time, whether things are going on smoothly or you are having a rough time to sort out logistic issues, always ensure you know where your kids are.
If you are with another adult and you want to buy tickets, share responsibilities, let one person stays with the kids while the other person buys the tickets, if not have them stay with you in the queue.
You can also use small GDS tracker that will alert you when they wander too far from your sight.

11. Airport check-in online
Check-in online is one of the easiest things to do, it helps you to minimize the time spent at the airport trying to check in.  All you have to do is go through the security check, you can also find out if there is a family area at the security check, some airports have it, it can save you a long period of time trying to stay check-in.

12. Give kids your contact details
Nobody prays for things to go wrong, but sometimes you can't avoid it. You can give your kids your contact details and let them know what is expected of them when they wandered away. You can be creative about your contact details. Get it written in a note and puts it into their pockets, tie it to their belt loop or stick to their shoes.
Get the older ones to have your contact information memorized both your contact no and email address. The information should include your name, phone no, local address and email address.

13. Go with basic medication
Having a sick family member can ruin the journey. whether your child is having an upset stomach from the bumpy ride to your destination or allergic to something, you have to be ready to make sure that the sick person gets well as soon as possible.
It is good that you get a few over counter drugs.

 Over counter drugs include:

  • Medication for upset stomach
  • Headache Medicines
  • Allergic  Medicines
If there is anyone with prescribed medications, be sure to bring it along. Bring them in their original package, or get a prescription copy from your doctor so you can show them for border crossing or if your bag is been searched.

14. Have your kids carry their bags

If your kids are a bit older, allow them to carry their own bags. It gives them a sense of responsibility. Unless where there is heavy equipment to carry, your kids should be able to carry a rolling bag or a small backpack. Doing this make it easier to go through the airport checks, and get to your destination faster, and everybody is happy.

15. Meet and assist service
Meet and assist service can make your trip with kids much easier and worthwhile, but not all the airport does. You have to check with your airline or airport if they provide such a service. You will be helped as much as possible from boarding to arrival if you're travelling with one or more than one kids, or you are new to your destination.
